Prepaid electricity service, a smart meter option, stimulates controversy

Chris King’s article, “Prepaid Electricity Service: Smart Grid-Enabled Customer Choice,” posted on our website July 5, has prompted a dialogue between those who see prepaid electricity service as one of a menu of services that utilities may offer customers and low-income consumer advocates, who want to ensure that those they represent have meaningful choices and are not being exploited.

The following  dialogue consider one of many customer choice options that smart meters and a smart grid may make available.
